A LETTER TO ALL CREATIVES

Dear Artists,

If you feel misunderstood, alone, and unappreciated, you are in very good company. These emotions are part of the creative life, and embracing them is essential.

Being a creative is not easy. Would it be simpler to abandon painting, drawing, or sculpting for a 9-to-5 job and a smoother life? Probably. However, we are called to create for a reason.

As heroes and heroines of our own lives, we hear the call and must eventually answer it, as Joseph Campbell describes in The Hero’s Journey. By answering the call, you throw your hat in the ring and declare to the world that you are in it to win it.

To be in the game, you must develop a wide range of skills—technical on the foundational level, conceptual on the secondary, and emotional at the highest level.

When you consciously and purposefully start mastering your spiritual and emotional skills as they apply to your creative life, EVERYTHING STARTS TO CHANGE.

When you become clear on your goals and how to reach them, develop mindfulness, and treat yourself with the utmost respect, your life and your art TRANSFORM DRAMATICALLY. Your technical skills improve exponentially, business connections seemingly find you by chance, and your confidence soars.

The goal of the 777 Course is to help creative professionals navigate the seas of exploration and develop spiritual tools for expansion and growth.

I have compiled all the methods that I love and use, incorporating them into this course with the hope that they will help you grow your confidence, self-view, technical skills, and success in your art careers.

With love,

  • Misconception #1: You make art only when you feel like it or when you are inspired.

Truth: Consistent practice and discipline are crucial. Waiting for inspiration can hinder productivity and growth.

  • Misconception #2: You can get set up anywhere; the space doesn’t matter.

Truth: A dedicated, conducive workspace can significantly impact your focus, creativity, and efficiency.

  • Misconception #3: Art making is a side gig, something to blow off creative steam.

Truth: Treating art as a serious profession requires commitment, time, and effort, much like any other career.

  • Misconception #4: Your audience doesn’t need to be courted; they will judge you only by the quality of your work.

Truth: Building relationships and engaging with your audience is essential for recognition and success.

  • Misconception #5: The presentation or placement of your work is not important.

Truth: Presentation and context can enhance the impact of your art, influencing how it is perceived and valued.

  • Misconception #6: Art doesn't require planning or structure; it should be spontaneous.

Truth: Planning and structure can provide a strong foundation, allowing for greater creative freedom and innovation.

  • Misconception #7: Only innate talent determines an artist's success.

Truth: Hard work, perseverance, and continuous learning are equally, if not more, important than natural talent.

  • Misconception #8: Feedback from others isn’t necessary; you should follow your own vision exclusively.

Truth: Constructive feedback can provide valuable insights and help you grow as an artist.

  • Misconception #9: Marketing and self-promotion are not part of an artist's job.

Truth: Effective marketing and self-promotion are vital for reaching a broader audience and achieving financial stability.

  • Misconception #10: Artists should work alone to maintain their unique vision.

Truth: Collaboration and networking can open up new opportunities and inspire fresh ideas, enriching your creative practice.
